Plan the doorway before the screen.
A retractable door screen depends on a square, plumb finished opening and several factory build inputs. This guide helps you assess and record the job without inventing an opening-specific fixing method.
This is not a universal installation manual
The correct fixing method depends on the structure and the finished opening. Use the instructions supplied for the exact Legacy build, and ask before drilling if the site differs from the plan.

Step 01
Decide whether the opening is suitable
- The intended housing side has a continuous, sound fixing surface.
- The top and bottom track paths are clear across the entire opening.
- The finished opening can be made square and plumb.
- Door handles, locks, sills and floor transitions will not obstruct the screen.
- The use and exposure suit a mesh that is not captured inside the tracks.
Exposed sites and persistent pets need extra judgement
Legacy mesh can move or release from the track line in strong wind because it is not retained inside the tracks. It may not be the best choice for a very exposed door or where a pet is likely to push repeatedly against the mesh.
Step 02
Define the finished opening
The product must be measured against the surfaces it will actually mount to. If the reveal needs square tube, packing, an added angle or other boxing, resolve that work before the final product measurement.
Housing face
Identify the solid vertical surface that will support the retracting housing.
Closing side
Confirm the opposite surface where the leading edge will close, or the centre line for a double.
Top track
Confirm a clear, straight path and note any head, soffit or trim that changes the finished height.
Bottom track
Record the sill or floor condition, level changes and trip-risk considerations for the selected track arrangement.
Do not assume an out-of-square opening can be corrected by the track. If the width or height readings differ, send all readings and photos through the enquiry route before ordering.
Step 03
Record the measurements
- Measure the finished width at the top, middle and bottom.
- Measure the finished height at the left, centre and right.
- Record every reading and the difference between them. Do not average them.
- Take a straight-on photo, plus close photos of the top, sill, housing side and closing side.

The correct build dimension depends on how the finished opening will be made square and on the exact supplied system instructions. Use the enquiry form rather than applying an unverified allowance.
Step 04
Record the factory build choices
Single or double
A single retracts from one side and closes at the other. A double is entered as one complete finished opening width; the two leaves meet in the middle. Use only the configurations and build envelope currently shown by the configurator.
Housing side
For a single, stand facing the opening with the housing projecting towards you. Record the side where that housing will sit. Do not use an inside/outside label without also following that viewing convention.
Handle height
Where the configurator asks for handle height, measure from the bottom of the housing to the bottom of the handle. Enter the exact millimetre value. The handle itself is approximately 150 mm high, so choose a practical position around the middle of the usable height.
Housing size and track
The finished height determines the appropriate housing build; it is not a separate customer choice. Track is supplied long and trimmed on site to the installed opening.
Step 05
Review before ordering

Step 06
Installation boundary
Before cutting track or making holes, unpack the order, check the product and finish against the packing information, and read the supplied Legacy instructions for the exact configuration.
The guide cannot safely prescribe fastener type, embedment or spacing without knowing the substrate. Timber, aluminium, masonry, steel, cladding and added boxing require different decisions.
Stop if the site is not what you measured
Do not use the product to pull an opening square, drill through an unknown substrate, or trim a component to compensate for an unresolved dimension. Ask before making an irreversible change.
