Plan the doorway before the screen.

Step 01

Decide whether the opening is suitable

• The intended housing side has a continuous, sound fixing surface.
• The top and bottom track paths are clear across the entire opening.
• The finished opening can be made square and plumb.
• Door handles, locks, sills and floor transitions will not obstruct the screen.
• The use and exposure suit the fixed charcoal insect mesh, which is not captured inside the tracks.

Step 02

Define the finished opening

The product must be measured against the surfaces it will actually mount to. If the reveal needs square tube, packing, an added angle or other boxing, resolve that work before the final product measurement.

Fitting to a ranch slider or boxed doorway

Ranch sliders and the receiving side

Plan a straight, continuous fixing face for the housing and both tracks. Check that the screen clears the sliding door, handle and lock throughout their travel. Keep the existing sill drainage clear.

The standard sliding-bar brush is 9 mm grey, fitted to the back. The brush can be moved to the side of the sliding bar to suit the closing surface. Alternatively, fix a receiving piece of aluminium so the bar and brush bump against it when the screen closes. This gives a defined closing face and can make operation easier.

25 × 25 mm powder-coated square tube can provide a receiver or boxing face. Decide its position before taking the final screen measurements: added tube changes the finished opening. Check the receiving face is straight and aligned with the closed bar, without forcing the screen sideways.

Boxing off a front door

If the existing trim or reveal does not provide a clear fixing path, use boxing to create a square, plumb frame for the housing and tracks. Plan the top, sides and sill together, allowing the front door and its handle to open fully. Secure the boxing to sound structure, then measure the completed opening.

The video shows a Meshlock, not a Legacy. The boxing approach is similar, but the Legacy mesh is not zipped into the tracks. Follow the Legacy instructions supplied with your screen for its fittings and installation.

If the mounting or receiving face is unclear, send us photos and measurements before ordering.

Do not assume an out-of-square opening can be corrected by the track. If the height or width readings differ, send all readings and photos through the enquiry route before ordering.

Step 03

Record the measurements

1. Measure the finished height at the left, centre and right.
2. Measure the finished width at the top, middle and bottom.
3. Record every reading and the difference between them. Do not average them.
4. Take a straight-on photo, plus close photos of the top, sill, housing side and closing side.

Step 04

Record the factory build choices

Single or double

A single retracts from one side and closes at the other. A double is entered as one complete finished opening width; the two leaves meet in the middle. Use only the configurations and build envelope currently shown by the configurator.

Housing side

For a single, stand facing the opening with the housing projecting towards you. Record the side where that housing will sit. Do not use an inside/outside label without also following that viewing convention.

Handle height

Where the configurator asks for handle height, measure from the bottom of the housing to the bottom of the handle. Enter the exact millimetre value. We recommend 1100 mm. Keep the handle as close to the middle of the screen as possible; the handle itself is approximately 150 mm high. The suggestion is not a prefilled build measurement: confirm and enter the height for your opening.

Mesh

The self-serve Legacy build uses fixed charcoal insect mesh for everyday fly and mosquito protection. There is no separate mesh selection in this DIY configuration. Ask before ordering if the site needs a different mesh purpose.

Housing size and track

The finished height determines the appropriate housing build; it is not a separate customer choice. Track is supplied long and trimmed on site to the installed opening.

Installation boundary

Refer to the assembled-view drawing for the component layout, track connections and handle assembly.

Before cutting track or making holes, unpack the order, check the product and finish against the packing information, and read the supplied Legacy instructions for the exact configuration.

The guide cannot safely prescribe fastener type, embedment or spacing without knowing the substrate. Timber, aluminium, masonry, steel, cladding and added boxing require different decisions.
